Show a few
simple examples
Discuss
the terms factor and product
Discuss
the three ways to show
multiplication
Show a
horizontal and vertical
representation of
multiplication
Discuss
lining up the ones, tens,
hundreds, etc. columns. Note
that the number with the
fewest digits goes on the
bottom.
Show
multiplication as an
addition of the
products. Work through a few
examples
Present
the shortcut method. Work
through a few examples
gradually adding more digits
to the factors.
Discuss
multiplying factors that are
multiples of 10. Work
through examples where you
drop the 0’s and add them
back.
Assessment/Evaluation Have students complete the worksheet. A passing grade is 70% or greater.
