To calculate a sales price, you first have to calculate the amount of a discount.
Do you remember how to calculate a discount?
If you know the original price of an object and the % of the discount, then you can calculate the discount off of the original price.
Let’s look at an example.
Example:
John is buying a new guitar. The original price is $65.00. It has been marked 15% off. What is the amount of the discount?
To work on this problem, we can write this another way.
What is 15% of 65?
Next, we need to write an equation.
“What is” becomes x =
15% becomes a decimal .15
“of” means to multiply
Now we can write an equation.
