What do we mean when we talk about the percent of a discount?
If we know the amount of a discount and an original price, can we figure out the percent of the discount?
The percent of the discount is the percentage that the discount is of the original price.
That may seem a little wordy. Let’s look at it another way that may seem easier to apply. Here is an example:

What % of 70 is 28?
First, we want to write an equation to solve this.
x represents our missing %
of means to multiply
because “of” is next to 70 we are multiplying the unknown times 70
is becomes =
Our result is 28.
