Passage from the story:
"Look at him, David. He's all
alone." Jill pressed her nose
against the pet shop window. The
puppy licked the glass where
Jill's nose was.
David laughed. "Let's go
inside," he said.
The pet store was cool and dark.
Jill pushed her finger through
the cage. The puppy licked it
and wagged his tail.
"I wish we could take him home,"
Jill said.
Mr. Peep heard her. He opened
the cage and put the puppy in
Jill's arms. Jill touched the
small spots on his nose.
"You have freckles," Jill said.
David looked at the Mr. Peep.
"How much does he cost?" he
said.
"Only fifty dollars," Mr. Peep
said.
Jill kissed the top of the
puppy's head. "Fifty dollars,"
she said. "I have some money at
home."
"So do I," David said.
Jill handed the puppy back to
Mr. Peep. "Bye Freckles," she
said. "We'll be back soon."
