Materials:

  • One copy per student of the lesson How to Write your Own Resume (see below for printable lesson, sample resume, and worksheet)

Procedure:
Teachers may either print out the lesson and have students read it themselves, and/or use the lesson for your own career and business skills lesson.

What is a resume?

A resume is a document that provides a potential employer with a quick overview of your employment history. Think of your resume as the marketing materials that you’re your services to a potential employer.

Can I write my resume myself?

Writing a resume may seem like a daunting task and many people opt to pay someone to do it for them. However, this can be an unnecessary expense in your job search. If you have access to a computer and a printer, you can write it yourself possibly saving yourself several hundred dollars.

Are there different formats for resume?

There are different format variations for resumes including a chronological format and a skills-based format. Although some skills-based resumes can be effective if they are done well, it is generally best to stick with the chronological format. This prevents you from leaving out important information and makes it easier for the employer to understand.
