How to use this resource
Use this generator at the very start of a money or budgeting unit. It introduces the most fundamental concept in personal finance — that we can’t always have everything, so we need a framework for choosing. The discussion generated by edge-case items (“is a winter coat a need or a want?”) is often more valuable than the worksheet itself. Works well for K–6, and also effectively resets older students who have never articulated this distinction before beginning a budgeting unit.
