Learning objectives

  • What information is typically required on a job application — personal details, employment history, references, and availability
  • How to fill in each section of an application accurately, neatly, and completely
  • What employers look for in a completed application — attention to detail, honesty, and clear communication
  • How to present personal information professionally in a job-seeking context
  • A beginning step toward resume writing — using a sample resume to populate an application form

How to use this lesson

Print the sample job application forms from the lesson page (multiple levels available — each progressively requires more information). Students practice filling in the forms using a provided sample resume, or using their own information for more advanced groups. Have students complete multiple copies, working on handwriting, spelling, and accuracy each time.

The lesson includes a sample success resume — a beginner-friendly format for students with little or no formal work experience to use as reference material. Works well for Grades 7–12, special education life skills classes, and workforce readiness programs for teens and young adults.
