Lesson plan

Estimated time: one 30–45 minute class period.

Lesson sequence

  1. Introduction (5 min). Ask what students know about car insurance. Establish that it’s legally required in most states and protects drivers financially after an accident.
  2. Watch the video (8 min). Play the lesson video. Ask students to note the key terms and coverage types.
  3. Vocabulary & coverage (15 min). Define premium, deductible, coverage limit, claim, and policy, then walk through liability, collision, comprehensive, and uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage.
  4. Worksheet (8 min). Students complete the worksheet based on the video.
  5. Wrap-up (4 min). Students share one thing they learned and why having the right coverage matters.

Activity

  • Match the coverage. Give small groups scenarios (a fender-bender, a stolen car, a tree falling on a parked car) and have them decide which coverage applies and how it protects the driver.
