Pedagogical note: The risky investment in this worksheet may sometimes show negative returns. Some teachers worry this gives a misleading picture of stocks — which historically have outperformed safe investments over long horizons. Use this as a teaching moment: stocks have outperformed over the long term, but short-term losses are real, individual stocks can collapse to zero, and there is never a guarantee. That uncertainty is exactly what makes them risky.
