Needs vs. Wants Sorting Cards + Posters
Help students learn one of the most important money lessons: the difference between what we need and what we want. This printable pack turns that lesson into a hands-on card sort — with classroom posters, sorting mats, a student recording sheet, and a full teacher answer key. A low-prep, print-and-cut financial-literacy center for grades 1–4 (and easy to adapt for K–5).
How It Works
A hands-on sort in three steps
Set it up once as a center and reuse it all year. Students read each picture card and decide: is this something we must have, or something that’s just nice to have?
Print & cut the cards
Print the picture cards and cut them apart on the dashed lines. Laminate them for repeated use if you like.
Sort onto the mats
Students place each card on the Needs, Wants, or It Depends mat — then defend the tricky ones out loud.
Record & discuss
Students fill in the recording sheet, and you review together with the teacher answer & discussion key.
