In the Classroom
Six ways to use it
Planning a budget
A ready-made form with income and expense categories to plan real spending.
Budget vs. actual
Students compare what they planned (Budget) to what happened (Actual).
Finding the difference
Subtract Actual from Budget on each row — over or under?
Adding subtotals
Total the income and the expenses, then find net income.
Net income
Income minus expenses — is there money left over, or a shortfall?
A lesson-plan companion
The printable that pairs with the Create-a-Budget lesson plan.
What It Teaches
Money skills students build
A budget worksheet turns budgeting from an idea into a habit. Students list income and expense categories, plan a Budget amount, record the Actual amount, and find the Difference — then total the columns and find net income. Use the blank form for the Create-a-Budget lesson plan, and pair it with the fixed and variable expenses generator for a fuller unit.
- Set up a budget with income and expenses
- Compare Budget to Actual
- Find the Difference on each row
- Add subtotals for income and expenses
- Work out net income (income − expenses)
Common Questions
Budget Worksheet FAQ
Do I need a membership to use this generator?
Yes — the generator is a full Money Instructor membership feature (the paid plan, not a free account). Full members can make and print unlimited worksheets with answer keys. The page itself is free to read.
What does the worksheet look like?
A budget table with income and expense categories and four columns: Category, Budget Amount, Actual Amount, and Difference, plus Income and Expenses subtotals and a Net Income row.
What’s the difference between the two types?
The blank form has empty amount cells for students to plan their own budget. The filled sample comes with Budget and Actual amounts already filled in, so students practice finding each Difference and the totals.
Is there an answer key?
Yes, for the sample: keep Include answer key on and the tool fills in every Difference, both subtotals, and net income. The blank form is for planning, so it has no answer key.
Are the sample answers exact?
Yes. The sample amounts are whole dollars, so every Difference is an exact subtraction and the subtotals and net income reconcile exactly.
Can I use this with the Create-a-Budget lesson plan?
Yes — the blank form is the printable that pairs with the Create-a-Budget lesson plan.
