What It Teaches
Car-buying skills students build
A car is one of the first big things most people shop for and finance, so reading a car ad and understanding the cost of a car loan is a key life skill. Each car ad gives the price and the financing — the monthly payment, the down payment, and the number of months. From those, students work out how much they pay in all, how the loan compares with paying cash (the finance charge), and how two cars compare per month. Pair this with the car loan worksheet (which has students compute the monthly payment with the amortization formula) and the credit and borrowing lessons for a complete personal-finance unit.
