How It Works
Make a worksheet in four steps
- Choose your options. Set how many cars per worksheet, how many worksheets, add your students’ names, and keep the answer key on.
- Generate. Press Generate worksheet — the tool builds a fresh set of cars, prices, and loan terms.
- Students solve it. For each car they compute the down payment, the amount financed, the monthly payment, and the total yearly payments.
- Print or grade. Keep Include answer key on to print every figure filled in, or turn on Give the monthly payment to skip the amortization formula. Press ↻ New version for a fresh one.
In the Classroom
Six ways to use it
Percentages & down payments
The core skill: students find 10% of the price to compute the down payment on each car.
Adding & subtracting money
Subtracting the down payment for the amount financed, then multiplying the monthly payment by 12 is real, everyday money math.
How a car loan works
Students see the moving parts of an auto loan — down payment, amount financed, interest rate, term, monthly payment, and yearly cost.
Amortization & interest
An optional challenge: students use the printed amortization formula (or a financial calculator) to find the monthly payment.
Life skills & personal finance
A natural fit for a budgeting, consumer-math, or life-skills unit on big purchases and borrowing.
Sub plans & homeschool
A no-prep, self-checking worksheet with an answer key — a new set of cars and terms every time.
What It Teaches
Car financing skills students build
A car is one of the first big things most people borrow to buy, so understanding a car loan is a key life skill. To work out what a financed car really costs, you start with the price, take off the down payment (often 10%) to get the amount financed, then use the interest rate and the loan term to find the monthly payment and the total yearly payments. Working through that calculation makes financing concrete. Pair this with the credit and borrowing lessons and the other worksheet generators for a complete personal-finance unit.
- Compute a 10% down payment on a car price
- Subtract the down payment to find the amount financed
- Use the amortization formula (or a financial calculator) to find the monthly payment
- Multiply the monthly payment by 12 for the total yearly payments
- Understand the basic parts of financing a car with a loan
Common Questions
Car Loan Worksheet FAQ
Do I need a membership to use this generator?
Yes — the generator is a full Money Instructor membership feature (the paid plan, not a free account). Full members can make and print unlimited worksheets with answer keys. The page itself is free to read.
How does the worksheet work?
Each worksheet names a student shopping for cars. For every car, the price, interest rate, and term are given; students compute the down payment (10%), the amount financed, the monthly payment, and the total yearly payments. The answer key fills in all four figures.
How do students find the monthly payment?
The monthly payment on a loan uses the amortization formula, which is printed right on the worksheet (a financial calculator works too). For classes that have not covered amortization yet, turn on Give the monthly payment — the payment is filled in and students do only the down-payment, amount-financed, and yearly-total arithmetic.
Can I personalize it?
Yes. Add your students’ names (one per line) and set the number of cars per worksheet (up to 10) and the number of worksheets (up to 5). Each worksheet gets its own cars, prices, and loan terms.
