How It Works
Make a worksheet in four steps
- Set the options. Choose the number of questions and the difficulty — Level 1 (dollar amounts) or Level 2 (adds percentages).
- Generate. Press Generate worksheet — the tool builds a full earnings statement with earnings, deductions, and gross / net pay.
- Students solve. They read the pay stub and answer the questions — hours, earnings, take-home pay, each deduction, and (Level 2) percentages of gross pay.

What It Teaches
Money skills students build
A pay stub tells the whole story of a paycheck: what you earned, what was taken out, and what you actually take home. Students practice reading an earnings statement, understanding deductions, and — at Level 2 — finding each deduction as a percent of gross pay. Pair this with the earnings statement lesson, the how to read a pay stub video, and the time card generator for the hours side.
- Read an earnings statement (pay stub) and find any value on it
- Tell the difference between gross pay and net pay
- Identify the deductions: federal and state tax, Social Security, health insurance, 401K
- Calculate average daily pay and overtime earnings
- Find each deduction as a percent of gross pay (Level 2)
Common Questions
Pay Stub Worksheet FAQ
Do I need a membership to use this generator?
Yes — the generator is a full Money Instructor membership feature (the paid plan, not a free account). Full members can make and print unlimited worksheets with answer keys. The page itself is free to read.
What is on the pay stub worksheet?
A full earnings statement: regular and overtime earnings, the deductions (federal and state tax, Social Security, health insurance, 401K), total deductions, and gross and net pay for the period and year-to-date. Students answer questions using the statement.
What is the difference between gross pay and net pay?
Gross pay is what you earn before anything is taken out. Net pay (take-home pay) is what is left after the deductions. The worksheet shows both.
What are the two difficulty levels?
Level 1 asks about dollar amounts (hours, earnings, take-home pay, each deduction). Level 2 adds percentage questions — what percent of gross pay each deduction is.
Can I use my own student names?
Yes. Enter a comma-separated list of employee names, or leave it blank for random names. Set Number of statements up to 5 to give each student a different pay stub.
Is there an answer key?
Yes. Keep Include answer key on and the tool prints the worked answer to every question.
